The opening day of the Paralympics saw Team GB secure seven medals, including two golds, as the team sit in third place. The awe-inspiring show kicked-off this morning with the swimming heats, watching a no-armed athlete win his backstroke heat followed by one-legged Sini Zeng take gold for China in the Women's Individual C1-2-3 Pursuit. Just the beginning of what will be an eye-opening spectacle.

Jonathan Fox took one of GB's two gold medals in the Men's 100m Backstroke S7 Class. Fox took the gold in a time of 1:10.46, over a second ahead of silver medallist, Yevheniy Bohodayko of Ukraine. Partially sighted, 16-year old, Hannah Russell began what could be an illustrious career after taking silver in the Women's 400m Freestyle S12 Class. Russell finished 0.71 seconds behind gold medallist Oxana Savchenko of Russia and 1.15 seconds ahead of bronze medallist Deborah Font of Spain. Nyree Kindred also took silver in the Women's 100m Backstroke S6 Class. China's Lu Dong secured a World Record time of 1:24.71 to claim gold, 1.52 seconds ahead of Kindred.

Then it was the turn of GB's answer to Michael Phelps. Sarah Storey had accumulated 16 medals, five of which were golds, in her Paralympic career so far. Well that became 17 today after Storey claimed her sixth gold medal after winning the Women's Individual C5 Pursuit by overtaking Anna Harkowska of Poland in the final. This is just one of four events that Storey is participating in after just missing out on selection for the Olympic team.

42-year old Mark Lee Colbourne claimed silver in the Men's Individual C1-2-3 Pursuit. Colbourne finished nearly three seconds behind China's Li Zhang Yu who claimed gold with a World Record time of 1:05.021. Germany's Tobias Graf claimed the bronze.

Azerbaijan's Ramin Ibrahimov took the gold after beating China's Li Xiaodong in the final. The final medal of the day was won by 20-year old Zoe Newson in the Women's -40kg Weightlifting.
