Sebastian Vettel blew the rest away for the whole qualifying session to put himself on Pole position for tomorrow's race in Montreal. Lewis Hamilton will sit behind Vettel in second while Jenson Button is all the way down in tenth. Alonso performed well in a more positive Ferrari and his reward is qualifying in third ahead of Mark Webber in fourth.
Nico Rosberg had a quiet session which saw him finish fifth with Michael Schumacher in ninth. Felipe Massa continues his much improved form and will start in sixth with Romain Grosjean in seventh and the surprise of the afternoon, Paul Di Resta, in eighth.
Q2 saw Jenson Button scrape through courtesy of Pastor Maldonado hitting the Wall of Champions on the final lap, the Venezuelan managed to maintain the car after countless spins but will ultimately start 17th. Kamui Kobayashi will begin the race 11th will Sauber team-mate Sergio Perez in 15th.
Kimi Raikonnen was perhaps the biggest name not to be in Q3 and will start in 12th ahead of Nico Hulkenberg. Daniel Ricciardo will start the race 14th with Bruno Senna the final name in Q2, starting 16th.
Toro Rosso's Jean-Eric Vergne was once again the driver to join the usual six. But, even more surprisingly, he will start behind both Caterham cars in 20th. Heikki Kovalainen won the battle against Vitaly Petrov to start 18th. Pedro De la Rosa was able to out-qualify the two Marussia cars in 19th with Timo Glock alongside the Spaniard.
