Portugal have officially arrived in South Africa, it only took them a game and a half to find their feet. North Korea tried to be more attacking than against Portugal and unfortunately for them they were well and truly punished for it. However Portugal did seem to have the edge from the outset when Ricardo Carvalho nodded a corner onto the post. The new attacking style Koreans did produce some decent attacks in the first half, but due to the poor weather and lack of sincerity in the final third nothing came of them. Portugal took the lead just short of the half hour mark; Fabio Coentrao, who had a brilliant game from left-back, played a crisp ball into the on rushing Meireles who placed the ball coolly past Ri. But that was to be it for the first-half.

Portugal stepped-up their game in the second half and took control, just eight minutes after the restart Simao was on hand to double Portugal's lead and the exiting Koreans looked crestfallen. Three minutes later it was 3-0, Coentrao placing another beautiful ball this time onto the head of Almeida who made no mistake to nod it home. On the hour the game turned into a rout as Ronaldo slid Tiago in to make it 4-0 Portugal, who now looked like scoring after every attack. Ronaldo even had to time to place a curling shot against the bar but it wasn't too long before Portugal made it five; bad defending let Liedson in and an easy finish secured the substitute's goal. Again Liedson was to take advantage of more poor defending, this time sliding Ronaldo in and he could finally open his account in this World Cup. The fun for Portugal wasn't over as a flashing header from Tiago brought about his second and Portugal's magnificent seven. This leaves Portugal in a great position to progress with Brazil as North Korea become the second team to be ousted from this World Cup.
