Along with the Carling Cup final, yesterday also saw two Premiership ties with the two Europa League contingents getting an extra day off. First up was West Ham as they hosted Liverpool at Upton Park. Avram Grant was looking to keep the momentum from their demolition of Burnley in mid-week. He got his wish with Scot Parker opening the scoring after 22 minutes. It got better for West Ham going into the break with Demba Ba making it 2-0 just before half-time. Liverpool pulled one back through Glen Johnson six minutes from time but Carlton Cole sealed the victory for West Ham by getting their third in injury time. The win sees West Ham move up to eighteenth level with Wolves.
The other game saw Mark Hughes return to Eastlands as Fulham took on Manchester City. Mario Ballotelli put City ahead after 26 minutes to make Hughes feel the worse. But Fulham earned a point with Damien Duff equalising three minutes into the second half. The point sees City move to six behind Arsenal and ten behind Manchester United but both have a game in hand, although Arsenal's is against Tottenham and United's is on Tuesday against Chelsea. Fulham move to thirteenth level on points with Blackburn and Blackpool.
