There was the return of Monday Night Football this week plus the final rescheduled Premiership match yesterday, all of which concerned the matter of European football. Firstly, Liverpool travelled to Craven Cottage and it took thirty-two seconds for Maxi Rodriguez to put them ahead against Fulham. The Argentine then made it 2-0 after seven minutes before Kuyt pretty much finished the game off after just sixteen minutes thanks to a Schwarzer blunder. Fulham did start the second half better and pulled a goal back from Moussa Dembele twelve minutes after the restart But Rodriguez managed to bag his second hat-trick in three games with twenty minutes to go. The fantastic Suarez rounded the rout off five minutes however, the best goal of the night arguably came from Steve Sidwell four minutes from time when he curled one into the top corner to make the final score 5-2. Fulham remain tenth in the table.
The final rescheduled match saw Manchester City host Tottenham. The only goal of the game came on the half hour when Crouch turned a cross into his own net to give City the three points. Perhaps better news for City fans was that Carlos Tevez made a substitute appearance so should be fit for the FA Cup final on Saturday. The win for City also means that they are now guaranteed Champions League football but the defeat for Tottenham sees Liverpool over-take them in fifth. Stoke will also be pleased with result because no matter what happens on Saturday, Stoke will also be in Europe next season.
