Red Bull Control Istanbul

The qualifying for the Turkish Grand Prix took place earlier although next year's race in Turkey may not happen for financial reasons. Q1 saw the usual six plus one, although the one was identified within minutes when Sauber's Kobayashi couldn't get back to the pits due engine failure. This means he will start last in tomorrow's race but at least he will be able to start despite falling under the 107% rule. No surprises with Karthikeyan 23rd but Liuzzi did manage to qualify ahead of Glock in the other Hispania car. D'Ambrosio qualifies twentieth behind the two Lotus' with Kovalainen beating Trulli. Perhaps the other surprise of the session was Massa recording the fastest time.

Q2 saw a disappointing qualifying for the Toro Rosso's with Buemi beating Alguersuari to sixteenth. Perez rounded off a poor Sauber performance with fifteenth place. The two Force India's sit twelfth and thirteenth with Sutil finally out-qualifying Di Resta, the are the double filling in the Williams sandwich with Maldonado fourteenth and Barrichello just missing out on Q3 in eleventh. No surprises with Vettel recording the quickest time.

Despite his impressive time in Q1, Massa became invisible to the rest of the pack and will start tenth in tomorrow's race. Renault developed a one lap policy throughout the qualifying session and it saw Heidfeld into ninth and Petrov seventh with Schumacher the meat in that sandwich. Alonso separates the McLarens in fifth with Hamilton out-doing Button again. But the surprise of the session sees Rosberg start off third tomorrow behind Webber and Vettel, Vettel makes it four Poles from four equalling the record that Mika Hakkinen set in the start of the 1999 season.
