Premiership Takes A Shake-Up: 29/12/10

The remaining three mid-week Premiership fixtures took place yesterday and all three shook up the league. Chelsea earned their first win in seven games at home to Bolton. Florent Malouda scored the only goal after 61 minutes to lift themselves back into the top four.

Chelsea are now just two points behind Arsenal after they could manage a draw away to Wigan. Wigan took the lead after 18 minutes through a Ben Watson penalty. Arsenal equalised with a goal from Arshavin after 39 minutes before Nicklas Bendtner put the Gunners ahead just before half-time. It got worse for Wigan when Charles N'Zogbia received a straight red to put Wigan down to ten men. But the ten men earned an equaliser nine minutes from time with a own goal from Squillaci. The point moves Wigan out of the relegation zone but are still only a point away from it.

The shock result came at Anfield where the struggling Liverpool suffered another defeat. The visitors were bottom side Wolves and the win moves off the bottom and move within a point of seventeenth Birmingham. Stephen Ward scored the only goal eleven minutes into the second half.
