Gyan It Again: Australia 1-1 Ghana 19/6/10
Australia line-up: Schwarzer, Neill (c), Moore, Culina, Emerton, Wilkshere (Rukavytsya, 84'), Kewell, Holman (Kennedy, 68'), Valeri, Carney, Bresciano (Chipperfield, 66')
Ghana line-up: Kingson (c), Sarpei, Gyan, Pantsil, Annan, Mensah, Tagoe (Owusu-Obeyie, 56'), Ayew, Addy, Asamoah (Muntari, 77'), Boateng (Amoah, 87')
The game started off slowly with a ten minute 'finding out' spell. But another goalkeeping error would soon bring this game to life. Australia were given an 11th minute, 30 yard free-kick which was fired in by Mark Bresciano, Kingson looked to try and catch it but ended up parrying the ball straight into the path of Holman who slotted home to give Australia an early lead. This lead to a comfortable spell for Australia as they took their time in possession and forced Ghana to chase the ball. However 25 minutes into the match Australia committed football suicide as a corner came in and Mensah fired one, it hit Kewell on the arm and referee Roberto Rosetti awarded a penalty and sent Kewell off. The Aussies begged the referee to watch the replay to see he was wrong but the replay showed conclusively that the referee got it right, how Kewell and Australia didn't think so is a complete mystery. Up stepped Asamoah Gyan for his second penalty in as many games and Ghana were level. Ghana looked to seize further advantage by grabbing a second but Schwarzer provided a great fingertip save to keep Boateng out and Australia level.
The second-half followed the first with Ghana looking to get maximum points from two games, but it eluded them. The best chance to steal a winner came from Wilkshere for Australia who found himself one-on-one with Kingson and really should got Australia an unlikely second. But Kingson atoned for his earlier mistake and the scores remained level at 1-1. Leaving this group very juicy with Australia on 1pt Serbia and Germany on 3pts and Ghana currently top with 4pts.
