Uninspiring Draw: Ivory Coast 0-0 Portugal 15/6/10
Ivory Coast line-up: Barry, K.Toure (c), Zokora, Kalou (Drogba, 66'), Tiote, Gervinho (Keita, 82'), Dindane, Tiene, Y.Toure, Demel, Eboue (Romaric, 89')
Portugal line-up: Eduardo, Alves, Ferreira, Ronaldo (c), Mendes, Liedson, Danny (Simao, 55'), Meireles (Amorim, 85'), Deco (Tiago, 62'), Coentrao
After all the hype of these two attacking teams the game was drawn because of tight defences that ultimately couldn't be broken down. Despite the triumvirate of Gervinho, Kalou and Dindane up front for Ivory Coast and Meireles, Ronaldo, Deco and Liedson for Portugal. The best chances unsurprisingly came from Ronaldo as he hit a peach onto the post in the 11th minute. Tiote had a swinging free-kick narrowly missing the post for the Elephants, which was their best chance.
The second half was less defensive as both teams looked to find a winner. That messaged was pressed home by Sven Goran-Eriksson as he brought Drogba into the fray on 66 minutes. He shouldn't really have played as he was clucthing his arm all the time he was playing. Half-chances came thick and fast but nothing could materialise for either team. Drogba's moment came deep into injury time but his dragged his shot wide and alas the game finished 0-0.
