England line-up: Green, Johnson, Cole, Gerrard (c), Terry, Lennon, Lampard, Rooney, Milner (Wright-Phillips, 31'), King (Carragher, HT), Heskey (Crouch, 79')
USA line-up: Howard, Bocanegra (c), Bradley, Onyewu, Cherundolo, Dempsey, Donovan, Clark, DeMerit, Altidore (Holden, 86'), Findley (Buddle, 77')
Again not a fantastic game by any means but did produce some entertaining moments. England fans must have been in dream land when Rooney, Heskey and Gerrard combined after four minutes to go 1-0 up. However with many people forgetting there was still 86 minutes left to play they thought England would cruise it.
Again passing seemed lacking from both teams and both goalkeepers weren't called into play too often, Howard more so than Green but still not too much. England looked like they were going to go in at half-time with their lead and just knuckle down for the second half. Unfortunately for England that wasn't to be as Clint Dempsey fired what seemed to an insignificant shot until Green managed to spill it and put it into his own net. Well all England keepers make at least one howler and England are hoping that was the only one.
The second half proceeded the same as the first, Heskey being caught offside all half long and passing wasn't great. Howard was called into action on three main occasions: palming a Lampard shot over and saving one-on-ones from both Rooney and Heskey. But surely you didn't expect Heskey to score? Green went some way for redemption after saving a Altidore shot onto the post.
Luckily both teams don't have to compete much to progress from this group but what I do find amusing is that England finally come up against a decent side in a competitive match and play poorly which earns a draw, which leads to everyone suddenly thinking Capello is wrong and isn't doing his job properly. Maybe everyone is beginning to realise we're not actually world beaters after all.
