Honduras Caught Cold: Honduras 0-1 Chile 16/6/10

Honduras line-up: Valladares, Chavez, Figueroa, Nunez (Martinez, 78'), Palacios, Pavon (Welcome, 60'), Espinoza, Alvarez, Guevara (c) (Thomas, 66'), Izaguirre, Mendoza
Chile line-up: Bravo (c), Ponce, Isla, Carmona, Sanchez, Vidal (Contreras, 81'), Valdivia (Gonzalez, 87'), Fernandez, Beausejour, Medel, Millar (Jara, 52')

Most definitely a one-sided game throughout, Chile more than deserved to win 1-0 as Honduras were made to defend for most of the 90 minutes. The tone of the match was set early on with a Fernandez free-kick hitting the roof of the net and that lead to a half hour of half chances. Chile made the breakthrough somewhat fortuitously in the 34th minute; a cross from Isla was half-cleared by Espinoza however it rebounded back of the sliding Beausejour and found the back of the net. Despite the luck it was completely deserved and the match followed the same pattern throughout; Chile attacking, Honduras defending.

Chile kept on searching for that elusive second in the following half but a mixture of wasteful shooting and some good saves from Valladares kept Chile at 1-0. The only time the ball did hit the net again for Chile was via Valdivia but he correctly flagged offside. Figueroa also made a couple of last-ditch tackles to stop Isla, but the one goal was enough for Chile. They celebrate their first win a World Cup Finals since 16/6/62 and give themselves a real chance of progressing into the next round.
